Drop in for one class or all eight as we explore the depth of what the biblical authors wrote to their ancient Israelite and early Christian audiences and how God's profound wisdom speaks to us today.

2 February - 25 May, 2022:
Prison Epistles Series
I am energized as I look ahead to walking through the “Prison Epistles” of Paul this year. These are namely Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon. They are often studied together since Paul wrote each of them “in prison.” As we look at each book we will get an introduction to the historical background from Amy Anderson, our local expert in these epistles! Most classes will involve direct exegesis of a chapter. As we exegete we will also discuss and work toward understanding Paul’s theology and consider implications for today.
We will conduct the class live at Sojourn Campus Church:
Wednesday evenings
6:30-8:00 P.M.
February 2 through May 25, 2022
We will zoom live through this link: https://northcentral.zoom.us/j/2744981109
As you are able, maximize learning by pouring over the text of Scripture and any supplementary material. The goal is extensive familiarity with the text of the Prison Epistles and beginning synthesis of Paul’s theology. Those who read Greek are strongly urged to work from their own translations. This is the ideal way to understand Paul’s arguments because you will see the underlying syntax. Others are encouraged to read a more “literal” translation such as ESV, old NASB or old RSV, or NIV (1980s or earlier). My translations will also be available. This will enable perceiving connections to the Old Testament.
Tracing the Argument: we will use “tracing the argument” (“arcing”) for each passage. These arcs are described and explained in chapter 6 “Tracing the Argument” of Tom Schreiner’s book Interpreting the Pauline Epistles. I highly recommend purchasing Tom’s book. The arc enables one to carefully follow the argument of a passage and record the relationship of each clause and sentence to the flow of the discussion. This is the same process one uses in any analysis of literature. The value of this approach, especially early in the process of gaining exegetical skill, is that it guides the interpreter to consciously decide and record each exegetical decision.

Each of the four Gospels has a unique perspective on Jesus. Scholars agree that Mark, Matthew, and Luke are linked literarily, but John is different, both in its wording and in its focus. The author of John is passionate to show that Jesus is the only way to the Father, and therefore chose to include the stories about Jesus that emphasize His uniqueness and superiority to the old covenant. We will cover backgrounds and other information about John’s message to the original readers with the goal of helping you understand the importance of the fourth Gospel for your own life today.

Have you ever gotten frustrated reading the Bible? Perhaps you've found it boring. Maybe you've never tried it, but it's too embarrassing to talk about. If any of these are you, please join us for Adult Forum on December 6 at 9:30am.
Dr. Amy Anderson, Professor of New Testament at North Central University, will be joining us to help us better understand the Gospel of John. Dr Anderson is a world-renowned expert in the field of textual criticism, the study of how manuscripts of the New Testament were copied prior to the invention of the printing press. She will clarify why John's gospel was written, to whom it was written, as well as why that matters for us reading John's gospel today. We look forward to an invigorating conversation.

is continuing his excellent series of Bible teachings, moving to the
restoration literature of the OT. Both Sundays and Wednesday are at Sojourn Church in Minneapolis. Craig describes his teaching series as follows:
This semester at Sojourn we will explore how the Jewish community of the second Temple period survived, stumbled and hoped in the environment of Persian universalism. As we see them adapt biblical truth to a new situation, we will get insights into how we might minister in our post-modern setting. We will examine Chronicles, Haggai, Zechariah, Ezra and Nehemiah, Malachi and Joel. Join us Sunday mornings at 10 am.
Our Wednesday night seminar will explore the pre-exilic Minor Prophets. At the peak of Israel and Judah's power, corruption and syncretism crept in. Hosea and Amos descend with a lion's roar of judgment. Jonah, in contrast, was captive to the nationalism and racism of his era. Micah speaks a word of judgment, but also points to the future hope of the people of God. Later on, after northern Israel falls in judgment, Nahum, Zephaniah and Habakkuk stand up and speak judgment and hope as Judah stands alone in the midst of the international powers. From this crucible come key insights on the life of faith. Join us Wednesday nights at 6:30.

July 2015
Dr Amy Anderson has announced that she will be teaching a course on Hermeneutics for Connect 2015. Connect is a training seminar for full time missionaries and student leaders in Students For Christ-Europe. This will occur in late July/early August and is a missionary assignment, so Dr A will be raising support. There will be more info later, but you can encourage her by giving already through the BLP's online donations. Just be sure to designate it for Connect. This giving is of course tax deductible.
September 2014:
BLP instructor Craig Krueger offers Sunday and Wednesday teachings in the Twin Cities
This semester at Sojourn we will explore Christian community through the eyes of the church under stress in 1 Peter. Later in the semester we will explore the life of discipleship from the perspective of Matthew. These teachings occur as part of the normal Sunday morning gathering, which starts at 10.00.
Our Wednesday night seminar begins September 10th, running from 6:30 to 8. This semester we will explore Hebrews: what is the situation of this group of believers? How is Christ superior to the Old Covenant? What is the relationship between the Old and New Covenants?

Summer 2013
Dr Amy could possibly teach a seminar for you in late summer 2013, but is otherwise interested in lining up BLP courses for early 2014. See the Resources page for examples of courses she can offer, and feel free to contact Amy with your questions and ideas. In addition, the Resources page is being expanded, so check there to find a BLP teacher in your geographical area or with specialization in your area of interest.
8 May, 2013 *Minneapolis, MN
BLP Session at Sojourn Church: Dr Amy Anderson will be teaching approximately 6 weeks on the Gospel of Mark and Gospel backgrounds. This week she'll start with an introduction to the Testimonia Theory, which hypothesizes on why Christians decided to use book form instead of scrolls when they wrote the NT documents. This will be followed by an explanation of the synoptic Gospels and why we think Mark was the first one written. Then she'll do several weeks on the structure and main themes of Mark.
Dr Amy will be followed by more detailed teaching on the contents of Mark by Pastor Craig Krueger.
